Living in Madisonville, Cincinnati: A 2026 Neighborhood Guide
Is Madisonville a good place to live in Cincinnati?
Madisonville is one of Cincinnati's most talked-about east side neighborhoods right now, with historic homes, quick access to I-71 and the Red Bank corridor, and a wave of new investment led by Madison Square. If you want character, convenience, and a neighborhood with real momentum, it belongs on your list.
Madisonville has been on our radar for a while, and 2026 has given buyers even more reasons to take a look. Here's what to know about living there, from the history and housing to where to eat and what's coming next.
Where Is Madisonville?
Madisonville sits on Cincinnati's northeast side, close to Oakley and Hyde Park and a short drive from downtown. Red Bank Road and the Red Bank Expressway run along the neighborhood, and I-71 is minutes away, which makes it easy to get to downtown, Uptown, or the northern suburbs.
A Neighborhood With Deep Roots
Madisonville is older than most people realize. It was founded in 1809 as Madison, named for President James Madison, and took the name Madisonville when the post office changed it in 1826 to avoid confusion with other towns. The City of Cincinnati annexed it in 1911.
That history still shows up in the streets. The historic business district centers on Madison Road and Whetsel Avenue, and many homes date back to the early 1900s.
Homes and Real Estate in Madisonville
If you love older homes with character, Madisonville delivers. You'll find early 1900s houses with front porches and original details, alongside newer construction and renovated homes as the neighborhood keeps evolving. Lots tend to be a comfortable city size, giving you a little yard without a suburban maintenance load.
For buyers, that mix means options. You might find a move-in-ready renovation on one street and a home with room to make your own a block over. For current owners, the new investment nearby is worth knowing about if you're thinking about selling. Curious what your Madisonville home is worth today? Get a free home value estimate.

What's New: Madison Square and Beyond
Madison Square is the headline. The $115 million mixed-use development on Medpace Way is bringing new dining and gathering space to the neighborhood, including Suzu, the first Midwest restaurant from celebrity chef Makoto Okuwa, which opened in October with contemporary Japanese food, sushi, a craft cocktail bar, and seasonal omakase.
Medpace's headquarters campus at Madison and Red Bank Roads anchors the area as a major employment hub, which means plenty of people can live close to work.
The neighborhood is also shaping its future on purpose. Residents and the City of Cincinnati have been drafting Madisonville's first comprehensive neighborhood plan, covering housing, the business district, history, and youth programs, with City Council approval expected after it's finalized.
